The 2018 Libertas Award Dinner to feature columnist Jonah Goldberg and honor attorney Chuck Douglas
Please join the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public on Monday, Dec. 10, at the Grappone Center in Concord for our Libertas Award Dinner featuring author Jonah Goldberg and honoring attorney Chuck Douglas
Headlining this year’s Libertas Award Dinner will be nationally syndicated columnist and best-selling author Jonah Goldberg.
A senior editor at National Review, Goldberg holds the Asness Chair in Applied Liberty at the American Enterprise Institute and is the author of Suicide of the West, The Tyranny of Cliches, and Liberal Fascism. Through his writings, TV appearances and, more recently, podcasts, he has become one of the most influential voices in American conservatism.
This year’s Libertas Award goes to attorney Chuck Douglas for his long and varied career in public service. Starting as legal counsel to Gov. Meldrim Thomson in the early 1970s, Douglas has served New Hampshire in many prominent and challenging roles, including as a state Superior Court judge, Supreme Court justice, member of Congress, and National Guard colonel.
He has been an influential member of numerous panels and commissions, including the New Hampshire Constitution Bicentennial Education Commission and the Constitutional Convention Study Commission.
He is even active in local affairs, having bought and revived the Bow Times to serve as a government watchdog in his town.
Passionate about civics and history, he helped lead the 2006 revision of New Hampshire’s civics standards. Most recently, he led this year’s effort to amend the New Hampshire Constitution to restore taxpayer standing for lawsuits challenging government actions.
“In his remarkable career, Chuck Douglas has given so much to New Hampshire and to the cause of empowering its people,” Josiah Bartlett Center President Andrew Cline said. “We at the Josiah Bartlett Center are happy to do our part to recognize his service by presenting him with our 2018 Libertas Award.”
